NO ROOM FOR QUIET OFF THE RECORD

Stories from inside the room. Some about music. Some not.

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON RANDOM DAYS — 001

When there is never enough mint and how respect includes Magic Markers.

Welcome to the first Off the Record scratching.

What began as random thoughts on random days is now becoming part of what is happening here at Cantaloupe Vol.2.

And there is probably only one place to start.

Normal has left the room. For good.

We don't do 'the new normal' either.

We do Vol.2.

Respect to those before us, absolutely. But new energy. New ideas. New ways of doing things.

New. New. New. New. New.

Change is good. Change is inevitable.

If you can't move with the tide, eventually you're going to get pushed against the rocks, dragged out to sea or simply swallowed by it.

A rebrand isn't a new logo and a lick of paint.

Done properly, it's a new life.

New energy.

And most of all CHANGE.

We cannot grow without change. None of us.

Challenge lives inside change, and most people will happily tell you they want a challenge.

But do they really?

Do they want to sacrifice anything? Put something on the line? Give up a little comfort? Actually do something differently?

Mostly, no.

Most of people really love the sofa.

COMFORT.

"We don't."

As the new custodians of Cantaloupe Vol.2, we know what we are trying to create and curate here. That means the room, the music, the food, the drinks, the energy and, importantly, a new culture for the wonderful people who work alongside us.

Change isn't something happening around the edges.

It is front and centre.

And we love it.

Which brings me, naturally, to THAT mint.

Why do we take every sprig so personally?

This isn't a rant.

Think of it more as a changes journal.

But mint?

Come on.

Buy it. Keep it fresh. Rinse it. Stock it to the roof.

Why spend countless hours selecting each individual sprig, lining them up and counting them as though they are about to join the brigade.

It's mint.

There will be more mint tomorrow.

Change the menu.

Change the room.

Change the music.

Move the furniture.

Question everything.

That seems reasonable.

Anyway.

Onwards and upwards.

I'm off to buy mint.

Andy.
