Sydney-born guitarist Roland Heinz leads a standout quartet that is capturing everyone's attention, serving as both composer and bandleader. Saxophonist Loren Stillman brings a lyrical style reminiscent of Jan Garbarek and Art Pepper, while bassist Scott Lee—known for his extensive work with legends like Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, and Freddie Hubbard—joins sensitive drummer Jeff Hirshfield to anchor the group. At the heart of the performance is Heinz’s imaginative guitar work, driven by a brilliant, celestial rhythm. It is a mesmerizing experience that floats away from reality yet remains grounded in exceptional musicianship. This finely tuned quartet delivers a dynamic, challenging blend of free play and rich song structures, proving that true jazz thrives when improvisation breathes life into every note.
